This wine leaps out of the glass, with a big nose of blackberry, mulberry, plum, and inkwell, followed by violets, lavender, cocoa-nibs, white pepper and baking spices. Blackberry, raspberry, and fig lead in this full and rich palate with cigar-box, leather, dark chocolate, tomato-leaf, nutmeg and smoked fennel-sausage providing a complex and intriguing background. Light herbal undertones lead to a firm, tannic frame that is held together by balanced acidity. The density and power are what excited us about this wine and makes it a cellar contender for a decade or more. This wine is reminiscent of chasing your soul mate through the cool and rainy moor. Alternatively, enjoy this wine in front of a fire reading a copy of Wuthering Heights. This wine is powerful, tortured and epic!

This is the fourth vintage of our flagship red blend for Leaning Post, named Heritage as an homage to our heritage of tremendous red blends at the winery (and our Ukrainian heritage). We do not produce this wine every year, but 2021 was a surprising vintage, producing some truly great fuller red wines from some of our better vineyards. All grapes were picked at optimal ripeness, hand-picked, hand-sorted, spontaneously fermented and aged separately in French (83%) and American (17%) barrels for 21 months. Blending trials lasted weeks and many iterations were assembled before the final blend was agreed upon. Cabernet Franc was certainly a star in this tricky vintage and is the anchor for this amazing assemblage!

Reminiscent of chasing your soulmate through the cool and misty moor, this wine is powerful, tortured, and epic!

Nose: This wine leaps from the glass with a big nose of blackberry, mulberry, inkwell, cocoa, white pepper, and baking spices.

Palate: A full and rich palate with real density and power shows blackberry, raspberry, and fig, with leather, cocoa, nutmeg, and smoker fennel sausage to provide a complex and intriguing background.

Finish: The firm tannic frame is held together by balanced acidity. This vintage can be cellared for well over a decade.

Pairing: This wine is for that special occasion you’ve been looking for a reason to celebrate. It will handle any dense protein you want to enjoy like prime rib and any other choice cuts of grilled meat. My favorite pairing is enjoyed by the light of a fireplace with a copy of Wuthering Heights in-hand.

Tasting Notes

The second vintage in our flagship red blend – only produced in the best years when all varieties are in use and can be picked at optimal ripeness. The best of the 2018 vintage is on display here! This wine practically jumps out of the glass with a big nose of blackberry, mulberry, fig, graphite, and white pepper. A full, rich, and silky palate shows raspberry, blueberry, and plum, with leather, cocoa, nutmeg, and smoked fennel sausage providing a complex and intriguing background. The firm tannic frame is held together by balanced acidity, making this a wine that can be cellared for a decade or more. To enjoy now, decant for a minimum of 2 hours and pair with short ribs, herb-crusted lamb, or other game meats.

Winemaker's Notes

2018 was a surprisingly ripe vintage and the resulting wines required a new assemblage of Cuvée Heritage. All grapes were hand-picked at optimal ripeness, hand-sorted, spontaneously fermented, and aged separately in barrel for 20 months. Blending trials lasted weeks and many iterations were assembled before the final blend was agreed on.
