We absolutely love this vintage of Senchuk Pinot! Our vineyard seems to be finally reaching its true potential. There is a flavour weight & density at its core that has been dialed up here, but somehow, we haven’t lost any of the lovely acidity, freshness, elegance and balance that we really prize. The layers of complexity have also increased without losing fruit. The nose comes at you like it was shot out of cannon… a cannon that was lined with black and red cherries, candy cane beets, cured meat, bramble, pink pepper, basil, and oregano! Tanning leather, mushroom, Iron and rare-meat eventually appear as well, with a notable layer of pepper, kirsch and mulberry. The palate is without question the fullest and most powerful we have ever produced, layered over perhaps the stoniest, wildest finish we have seen. Fried mushrooms, compost, wintergreen and rocks! The smoothness belies a tannic structure that is quite firm and meant for long-term aging. With a final sweep of tannin and acid, the finish goes out so slowly, smoothly and gracefully it almost defies belief. Full-bodied yet balance has always been our philosophy and we feel that this wine epitomizes those aspirations. 14 years in, we can only marvel at the “Winona-Magic” ourselves.

2022 is the eighth vintage of our flagship Pinot Noir from our estate Senchuk Vineyard and is certainly the fullest bodied and most intense so far! The 2022 growing season followed a cold winter, with a cool spring then sunny, warm and dry conditions all the way through harvest. The resulting yields were exceptionally small, but the “Winona Magic” of our property showed itself again, with amazing freshness and acidity from this far western corner of Niagara. The result was fully ripe Pinot Noir with an unusually full-body and intensity, yet excellent natural acidity and freshness. Hand-picked and hand-sorted on October 3rd, the grapes were partly de-stemmed (85% destemmed, 15% whole-cluster), partially crushed and left to soak on skins prior to fermentation. After 3 days, fermentation occurred spontaneously in concrete fermenters. During fermentation, the skins were punched-down by hand 2 times per day. Once fermentation was finished, the wine remained on skins for 5 days before being gently pressed. It was then transferred to French oak barrels and aged for 17 months. The 2022 Senchuk Vineyard Pinot was bottled in August 2024.

Reviews: 95 PTS - Rick Vansickle - Wines In Niagara Tasting Notes We are so proud of this Senchuk Pinot, mostly because it was just so tricky to make, yet turned out so fantastic!  There is a flavour weight & density at its core, with lovely acidity and freshness, but there is an elegance and balance that we really haven’t seen before. Also, the layers of earth and dirt have been dialed up to 11, without losing fruit! Unfolding effortlessly on the nose; black and red cherry, pomegranate, sugar-beets, and a mossy/brambly character are all there as usual, along with herbal notes of tarragon, sage and oregano that have become the signature of our vineyard. Iron and rare-meat make an appearance as well, with a notable layer of pepper, kirsch and mulberry.  The palate is without question the smoothest we have ever produced, as if we layered pure silk over wild-mushrooms, fallen-leaves, spearmint and stones! The smoothness belies a tannic structure that is still firm and meant for long-term aging.  With a final sweep of tannin and acid, the finish goes out so slowly, smoothly and gracefully it almost defies belief.  Full-bodied yet balance has always been our philosophy and we feel that this wine epitomizes those aspirations. 13 years in, we can only marvel at the “Winona-Magic” ourselves.
