2020…vintage of the decade? For Syrah, definitely! Best Syrah we’ve ever made? …Quite possibly! When we first encountered this vineyard in 2012, we dreamed of one day making a Syrah like this.

Nose: This long-awaited Syrah provides an intense nose of black cherry, blackberry, white & pink pepper, pancetta, leather, chocolate, and violets.

Palate: The palate goes even further with black fruits quickly being overtaken by moss, crushed stone, black peppercorns, smoked sausage, coffee, and lilies.

Finish: The balance here is unbelievable; with both rich, full-bodies power and tannic structure, yet much depth, complexity, and elegance.

Pairing: The pepper notes on this wine are like fireworks going off on the palate with a peppercorn steak

The 2020 vintage was warm with a long growing season, experiencing the right amount of rain to help develop complex flavours in the grapes.

Hand-picked and hand-sorted on October 14th, the grapes were destemmed, and left to cold-soak on skins for 6 days prior to fermentation. Fermentation was started in stainless steel tanks. The skins were punched down by hand 2x per day throughout the fermentation process. The wine remained on skins for several days after fermentation before being gently pressed. After being transferred to French & American oak barrels to be aged for 18 months, the 2020 Syrah was bottled in September 2022.

Tasting Notes

This Syrah will have you picturing yourself in a wood paneled room in a leather wing-backed chair with a roaring fire on the hearth. This long-awaited Syrah provides an intense nose of black cherry, raspberry, smoke, leather, peppercorns, violets, and vanilla. The palate matches the nose with developing notes of clove, nutmeg, gravel, crushed stone, cigar leaf, and peppercorns of every variety. Enjoy with a peppercorn steak, lamb shank, or braised beef. This wine will age well for 5-10 years.

Winemaker’s Notes

The 2019 vintage was short and sweet with a cool Spring and cold weather rolling in at the beginning of November. Hand-picked and hand-sorted on October 29th, the grapes were destemmed, partially crushed, and left to cold-soak on skins for 5 days prior to fermentation. Fermentation was started in small, open-top fermentors. The skins were punched down by hand 2x per day throughout the fermentation process. The wine was gently pressed on skins before being transferred to French & American oak barrels to be aged for 20 months. The 2019 Syrah was bottled on August 18, 2021.

Tasting Notes

From the warm 2016 vintage, this Syrah provides an intense nose of blackberry, raspberry, plum, white pepper, lavender, cloves, fennel, and roasted meat. The palate is much the same as the nose with violets, lavender, raspberry, cherry, bacon, and vanilla. Integrated but present tannins ensure that this wine will age well for the next 8-10 years. Pairs well with a hearty Fall stew, grilled meats, and Moroccan tagine.
