Overall

The warmth of the vintage and the coolness of Senchuk Vineyard have combined to create perhaps the fullest Gamay we have ever made. The “sunny but cool” feel of the wine shows throughout, with incredible density, yet medium body and good acidity.

Nose:

Loads of black raspberry, cherry and mulberry, violets, peony, and pink pepper spice leap out of the glass.

Palate:

The palate is full and intense, but never heavy, showing bing cherry, blackberry, and a touch of plum followed by a mossy, wet-stone and fresh soil impression, with an iron and rare-steak covered in dried oregano and pepper second wave.

Finish:

The texture is full, but still mid-weight with incredibly soft tannins and complimentary acidity. The finish is fantastically long and smooth. The 2025 Gamay will age well for the next 6+ years.

Winemaker Notes:

What can be said about 2025 except “hot”. The growing season was hot and sunny, and the hot weather continued throughout September, and only started cooling in mid-October. Nights were very cool at harvest however, resulting in wines that are exceptionally ripe and full with intense acidity. This wine is 90% Gamay and 10% Clone 777 Pinot Noir from our estate Senchuk Vineyard. The grapes were picked on October 4th (Pinot) and October 6th (Gamay) and vinified separately. After a 4-day cold soak fermentation occurred spontaneously and was hand punched-down twice a day for 3 weeks. After fermentation, the wine was kept on skins for an additional 5 days then gently pressed and settled in vessel. It was then racked into 10% new, and 90% older barrels and aged for 10 months. It was bottled in August 2026. What can be said about 2025 except “hot”.
