Relatively cool years like 2019 make for some of the best Pinots from this vineyard, showing a true “P-Funk” that we adore at Leaning Post.

Nose: The initial cherry, mulberry, and pomegranate are very quickly subsumed by earthy mushroom, tomato leaf, sweet tobacco, and rare steak.

Palate: Less floral and more minty than most years, with some air a pronounced pancetta and smoked game meat begins to creep in, backed by cracked pepper and tarragon.

Finish: They body is mid-weight, typical of Lowrey, but is backed by a solid tannic structure and incredible core weight intensity; can easily last for a decade or more.

Pairing: This wine is stunning with lamb or pork tenderloin.

The growing season in 2019 was slow to start, staying very cool throughout harvest. With a short and cool season, focus was given to keeping the grapes on the vines longer than is usual to develop ripe skins and mature seeds.

Hand-picked and hand-sorted on October 11th, the grapes were partially destemmed (75% destemmed; 25% whole cluster) and left to cold soak for 3 days prior to fermentation. The skins were punched down by hand 2x per day throughout the fermentation process. The wine remained on skins for 3 days after fermentation before being gently pressed. After being transferred to French oak barrels (33% new, 33% 1-yr. old, 33% neutral) to be aged for 18 months, the 2019 Lowrey Pinot Noir was bottled on May 11, 2021.
