Winemaking Notes
A warm growing season continued into the autumn, with many rain events making it difficult to time harvest and get fruit picked. However mature vines, good vineyard management and meticulous hand-picking and sorting allowed us to get amazing quality whole-clusters into the press on September 27th 2018. Juice was naturally settled, then racked into barrel where fermentation occurred by indigenous yeast and malolactic bacteria. Once fermentations were completed, the wine remained in French oak barrique and 500-Litre pucheon without stirring of the lees for 13 months. This wine was lightly filtered and bottled on April 25th, 2020.
Tasting Notes
Mature vines display the wonderful chalkiness and weight of the Twenty Mile Bench in Vineland. Fantastic pineapple, red-apple, pear and almond aromas lead on the nose, while on the palate, peach, lemon curd, spiced apples and hazelnut play off the chalky/mineral base. Texture and weight are phenomenal and balanced by good acidity leading to an incredibly long finish. Drink with lemon roasted chicken, semi-soft cheese, and freshly baked bread. It will age well for the next 5-8 years if you can wait.
